On Friday, September 25th, the newest addition to the Volz family said "Ready or not, here I come!" Shane and Sara welcomed Trevor Allen Volz to the family at about 1:15 Friday afternoon. Sara wasn't actually due until December 4th, so he was over 2 months early. The precious little miracle weighed 3 lbs, 3 oz, and was a whopping 17" long. Sara is doing great, and Trevor is surprisingly healthy! Come to find out after the fact, Sara had a placental abruption, which is a very serious condition... needless to say we are SO GRATEFUL that both of them are doing so well. Joel and I went to visit the precious little guy on Saturday, and instantly fell in love with him. He is SO adorable! He has a lot of dark hair (just like Mitchy!!: ) and his features are just precious. He grabbed onto his daddy's finger when he heard Shane's voice. It made me melt. Joel tickled his feet and we giggled as he pulled his knees up to his chest. He is so tiny, but yet so perfect. I just wanted to cuddle him up!
He is doing good, and we couldn't be happier about that. He was only on the ventilator for the first few days- that's impressive considering how early he was. KEEP IT UP TREVOR!!! What a trooper!! Now he is on a cpap instead that is assisting him some with his breathing, and he has breathing episodes from time to time where he stops breathing. Although it sounds like this is common for preemies, it is still VERY scary. He's a champ though, so I'm confident his little lungs will develop fully soon, and be able to do the breathing on their own without any assistance! He has 2 holes in his heart that they are monitoring. From what I understand, one they aren't really overly concerned with, but the other one would have to be surgically repaired if it doesn't close on its own, so please please please keep those prayers coming so that he doesn't have to have surgery, and that every day he does even better than the last! The doctors told Shane & Sara that the rule of thumb is that they stay in the NICU until their due date, but sometimes it's sooner, sometimes it's later... it just depends on how the little squirt does. It sounds like he is doing pretty well, but like with any preemie, there are still a lot of uncertainties. Thank you so much for all of your thoughts and prayers for Shane, Sara, & Trevor. Please keep them coming because every little prayer counts!
