I haven't got a post up yet about any of the Hawkeye games.... the only one I took pictures at so far was the season opener against Tennessee Tech. For Brayden's birthday in June, Joel and I gave him 2 tickets to this game, and of course he chose to bring big brother Nolan, (as I was guessing he would: ) Let me preface this story by saying the boys were CHAMPS! The weather left much to be desired, but we still somehow managed to have a fun day. Joel and Ryan headed down early for tailgating, but the boys and I headed down a little later and took the train. We tailgated for a couple hours and the boys had fun running around with Mitchell (Shane and Sara brought him for that game as well.) The weather was fine for all of tailgating, but literally the minute we were going to leave to head to the game, it started raining... POURING actually!!! It poured and poured, and there was no end in sight, but the boys assured me they didn't mind the rain and wanted to venture over to the stadium.
Even though our seats are in the North endzone, we snuck in at the south end so we could atleast get under the bleachers and not get poured on..... apparently everybody had that idea though because it took us forever to squeeze through the crowd. Once we finally got to our seats, the boys were really enjoying the game, despite the rain. Nolan's feet were drenched (we had a little mishap with a GIANT puddle on the walk to the game), so I took his socks off so atleast his feet weren't so "squishy" as he informed me they were: ) We all had raincoats and parkas, but they only do so good at keeping you dry. Poor Brayden's parka was a little shorter, so every time he tried to sit down, his shorts got SOAKED. They were such champs though. I asked them several times if they were doing alright or wanted to head out, and they reassured me they wanted to stay for more of the game. The rain stopped for a while in the 2nd quarter, so life was good.....
but then in the 3rd quarter, I could see there was more rain moving in... a LOT more rain... so I told the boys we would go catch the first train back. Well, unfortunately my timing wasn't stellar, and by the time we maneuvered around the stadium, it had started pouring sheets again, and everybody was told to evacuate the stadium. That means that EVERYBODY was trying to get on the train at the same time... needless to say we didn't exactly make the first one back. Instead we stood in the pouring rain waiting for the second.... luckily we made that one and were home free. I'm bummed it had to pour at the game I brought my nephews to, but like I said, they were champs, and we all still had a great time. This weekend is a bye week for us, and the following game is away, so we are VERY ANXIOUSLY awaiting the Steffen's coming down from Minnesota for the Northwestern game on the 15th!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!! And now a few more pictures from the season opener...
